Aleesha Mehta

Clinical Psychologist

Aleesha is a clinical psychologist with a specialist interest in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders. Her experience is primarily in private practice, where she has supported individuals with a range of eating and body‑image concerns, including Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, Bulimia Nervosa, Atypical Anorexia Nervosa, and Anorexia Nervosa, and other dysregulated eating patterns. Additionally, she is currently working within the Eating Disorder Service at Barwon Health, supporting children and adolescents with acute and complex presentations, and brings this additional specialist experience to her private practice. Alongside her work with eating disorders, Aleesha has supported clients experiencing anxiety related disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and mood disorders.

In addition to her clinical work, Aleesha’s research has explored topics around the relationship between stress, negative eating attitudes, and body image in the postpartum period. She has also led research on the prevalence of subclinical psychosis in New Zealand, which was presented at the IEPA14 Early Intervention in Mental Health Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2023.

Aleesha’s treatment approach is grounded in a cognitive-behavioral framework, which she tailors to meet the individual needs of each client. Aleesha is known for her warm and empathetic therapeutic approach and takes the time to understand each individual’s story. She is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment, through building strong, trusting relationships and collaborating closely with clients throughout their journey toward recovery.
