FAQs

What concerns do you support?

We work with individuals experiencing a range of eating and body-image concerns, including binge eating, ARFID, dysregulated eating, and body image distress, as well as anxiety-related difficulties.

We are currently accepting clients whose needs are appropriate for telehealth. If a higher level of care is required, this will be discussed to ensure you are supported in accessing the most appropriate next steps.

How long are sessions, how often do they occur, and what are the fees?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes. Session frequency is discussed collaboratively and may be weekly, fortnightly, or adjusted over time depending on your needs and goals.

We charge below the recommended APS rate of $318 per session, fees are $250 per 50 minutes. Payment is processed securely via automatic billing.

Do you offer in-person appointments?

At this time, Inner Room Psychology offers sessions exclusively via secure telehealth. Telehealth allows you to access care from a private, comfortable space and can work as effectively for certain presentations. In-clinic options will be reviewed in the future.

Do you offer Medicare rebates?

Medicare rebates may be available with a valid GP referral under a Mental Health Treatment Plan or Eating Disorder Treatment Plan. If your GP refers you under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you may be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate for psychology sessions. This allows access to up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Your GP will usually refer you for an initial set of sessions, followed by a review to determine whether additional sessions can be accessed.

Referrals can also be provided by a psychiatrist or paediatrician, which may make you eligible for Medicare rebates.

If you are referred under an Eating Disorder Management Plan, you may be eligible for up to 40 Medicare-rebated sessions within a 12-month period, subject to GP review and ongoing eligibility.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, 48 hours’ notice is required. Late cancellations or missed appointments will incur the full session fee. This policy helps ensure session availability is respected, as late cancellations and missed appointments also limit the opportunity for other clients on the waitlist to be offered that time at short notice.

If an appointment is cancelled, changed, or missed with less than 24 hours’ notice during business days, the full session fee will apply. If a cancellation or change is made between 24–48 hours’ notice during business days, 50% of the session fee will apply.

Please note that cancellation timeframes are calculated using business days only and do not include weekends or public holidays.

What if I need urgent support?

Inner Room Psychology is not a crisis service. If you are experiencing immediate distress or feel unsafe, please contact emergency services (000), Lifeline (13 11 14), or attend your nearest emergency department.
